3. Professional and Medical Disclaimer

The services provided by OT in Bloom are occupational therapy in nature and are delivered within the defined scope of practice for registered occupational therapists in Australia. Interventions aim to support function, participation, and overall wellbeing across the physical, emotional, cognitive, and psychosocial domains.

Pelvic health care is offered as a functional and occupation-centred intervention, addressing how physical symptoms such as pelvic pain, bladder or bowel dysfunction, and changes in sexual function affect clients’ ability to engage in daily tasks, roles, and routines.

OT in Bloom does not provide medical diagnosis, medical management, or psychiatric treatment. Our services are not a substitute for medical care provided by GPs, specialists, or mental health professionals.

Internal pelvic work and soft tissue release are only offered following a thorough assessment, informed consent, and professional screening. Clients are encouraged to consult with their GP or other medical providers regarding any concerns outside the scope of occupational therapy.

4. Informed Consent and Clinical Boundaries

Before beginning services, clients will be asked to complete a comprehensive intake and consent process, which includes:

  • Consent to collect, store, and use personal and sensitive information

  • Consent to participate in therapeutic interventions, including any internal pelvic floor therapy

  • Consent to communicate via email, phone, or secure telehealth platforms

12. Mandatory Reporting and Duty of Care

As a registered occupational therapist practicing in Australia, OT in Bloom operates under legal and ethical obligations to ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients and the broader community. This includes mandatory reporting requirements under child protection laws and a duty of care in situations involving serious risk of harm.

12.1 Child Protection

In accordance with Queensland child protection legislation and national Ahpra guidelines, OT in Bloom is a mandatory reporter. This means that if there is a reasonable belief or suspicion that a child or young person is at risk of abuse, neglect, or significant harm, this information must be reported to the appropriate authorities (e.g., Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women). This duty overrides client confidentiality.

12.2 Self-Harm and Suicide Risk

If a client is assessed to be at serious risk of self-harm or suicide, or if there is a credible threat to the safety of another person, OT in Bloom has a legal and ethical duty of care to take appropriate action. This may include:

  • Notifying emergency services

  • Contacting a nominated support person or guardian (if appropriate)

  • Referring to or collaborating with other healthcare professionals (e.g., GP, psychiatrist)

  • In rare cases, breaching confidentiality to prevent serious harm, in accordance with professional guidelines and legal requirements

All actions taken in these instances will be guided by the principles of least intrusion, client safety, and clinical judgment, and will be documented in accordance with Ahpra and legal standards.

12.3 Confidentiality Limits

While client confidentiality is upheld in all other aspects of care, the following situations require or permit disclosure of personal information without consent:

  • Where disclosure is required by law (e.g., mandatory reporting)

  • Where there is an immediate or serious threat to life, health, or safety

  • When ordered by a court or legal body

These obligations align with the Occupational Therapy Code of Conduct, Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and Queensland's Child Protection Act 1999.
